Updates are a huge part of a game’s success in this new digital distribution world. Final Fantasy XV developers have been doing a great job of releasing constant content updates to keep the layer engaged.
The first thing we address in the video is the sales pattern know as the long tail. Sales for games generally follow the long tail pattern, where there is a burst of sales at launch and the sales taper off over the lifetime of the game. But digital distribution is changing how this sales model works.
We then take a look at the updates Final Fantasy XV has released. Starting with the two festivals. The Moogle Chocobo festival and the Assassins Festival. In the Moogle Chocobo Festival, which is a free DLC, the player can run around an alternate version of Altissia. There are a bunch of minigames you can partake in like Chocobo Races, Fishing, Whack-a-cacutar and more. Easily a few hours of extra game play.
Next is the Assassins Creed crossover festival called the Assassin’s Festival. Here there is a lot of similar content to the previous festival but also a bunch of quests themed for Assassin’s Creed. They also replicate some of the iconic mechanics from the AC franchise. Including assassinations, hiding in hay carts and the Leap Of Faith.
After this I talk about the Regalia Type-D for a bit, and how it allows you to go off road. I also mention Chapter 13 verse 2.
Then it is into the small updates. I go through each month and list all the stuff the developers have released. From January to December. There is so many updates I won’t list the all hear, but you really get an appreciation for the work the team has done.
Finally I talk about how regularly releasing content can help improve retention and might tempt players to buy the next game in the series.
